These Are A Few of My Favorite Things

What does this:

Have in common with this?

Come visit my latest post on Project Nursery to find out!

Which Dish?

Ok this has no relation to nurseries or children's rooms but I'm in love with these new Nammoura Dessert Plates from Anthropologie. I want to get a set to spice up my Haviland China for some dinner parties. Which one do you like? The turquoise or fuchsia? BTW my walls are turquoise and the table is black.

(Please disregard my son's plastic placemat :) )

Guest Post: Holiday Party for Wee Ones

Today I have the pleasure of featuring a guest blog post from Kate Todd from Party Resources. Her blog Party Resources is a wonderful look into the ideas of a party planning guru.

Every year I host an elegant Christmas dinner in early December for my closest girl friends. I started it when I first moved to Boston, and now it has become a cherished tradition. I thought it would be fun to start a similar tradition with your kids. Pick 6-8 of their closest friends and plan a special afternoon party.

Christmas has become crazy commercial, so why not embrace a classic? The theme of the party is "Twas the Night Before Christmas".

Online invites are so elegant now and I would suggest this invite from Paperless Post. I love this classic look (used it for my own holiday party) and it is perfect with the theme.

Since the party is about embracing classic fun, why not have the kids make their own snow globes with trees and reindeer? Visit Martha Stewart HERE for the "how tos".

Since it is an afternoon party, the table will serve as a buffet. Maker your own centerpieces with festive amaryllis. This would be simple and youthful enough for kids. Go HERE to Martha Stewart for the directions.

Mercury Votives add holiday sparkle. You can find a set like the one shown below HERE.
Music sets the tone for any party. Create a custom play list with kid-friendly tunes from Charlie Brown Christmas, The Grinch, etc.

For food, serve a fun assortment of holiday favorites.

Mini burgers are a guaranteed hit with the kids, RECIPE.

Along with mini grilled cheese, RECIPE

Hot chocolate with home made marsh mellows, and sparkling apple cider in plastic champagne flutes are additional party necessities.

Peppermint Patties, RECIPE

Red & White Meringues, RECIPE

How adorable are these cupcakes from Bakerella? You could have your local bakery reproduce them.

I always send guests home with a gift over the holidays. How about a copy of the book that inspired the theme? You can find a copy HERE and wrap it in festive paper.

New Crib Sets from New Arrivals

The newest bedding sets from New Arrivals are finally available. I saw the Bella Amore set at a trade show in October and loved the subtle and french-inspired Bella Amore set. Beautiful calming colors which look wonderful paired with washed linen accessories.

The beachy boys version is Starlight in Blue.

And in response to the popularity of crisp navy, the Boy oh Boy set is a classic combination of blue and green with another version of the star fabric used in the Starlight in Blue set.

Just in time to dress up your nursery for the holidays!

Modern Boys Room

I'm looking for some inspiration for designing two boys' rooms in the Palisades and ran across these photos this week on Color Me Happy of a house in TriBeCa designed by Ghislaine Vinas. Definitely high-end design and stunningly modern yet comfortable. I'm loving this slate grey and kelly green combo.

New Wallpaper from Dwell

Finally! Dwell Studio has developed wallpaper to compliment its adorable modern bedding and accessories. They mentioned that they were working on it at the ABC show when they had some displayed in their booth but Daily Candy informed us that it was official today! And even better it is pre-pasted so is easily removable! Each print comes in an assortment of colors and can be sizes and purchased as you please as the paper is custom made to order. It is priced at $5.99 per square foot, so not cheap but incredibly chic!

Here are some photos I took at the show so you can see it close up in more room settings. I'd love to see the prints blown up and oversized on a single wall in a nursery.

BTW how cute are these frames to match?

Room for Two

I recently had a friend in North Carolina asking me for some inspirational photos for creating a room for her two three year old girls. She was interested in creating built-in beds because although the girls were begging to share a room, she still wanted them to have a little privacy as needed.

Well I found this room designed by Ginger Brewton Interiors and thought it wonderfully captured all of her needs. It offers separate closet space, full beds which can offer privacy with curtains, and a few feet of play space in the center of the room. (Obviously for two little ones I'd replace the chairs with a play table).

As long as the room that you are working with is big enough, this is a pretty easy project and only entails a little framing and drywall. Luckily she is building a house now so has the ability to create whatever she wants with her architects.

Library Nursery

Here are a few photos of a wonderful nursery posted on House of Turquoise today. The designer is Elizabeth Sullivan from New Orleans. A wall of books is a fabulous way to decorate a wall with some functionality. Well done Elizabeth!

My guess is that she got inspiration from this library designed by Kelly Wearstler as posted here a few months ago featured in Cookie Magazine (oh how I miss that publication).

A Bunk Room in the Mountains

No time for a real post today as my son refuses to nap...but I had to share this photo of a beautiful bunk room in a mountain house in California. Clean, simple, elegant and warm. Fit for kids or even for adults as these look to be full size custom bunk beds.

And yes there are those Jonathan Adler Giraffe Sconces again! They keep taunting me!

This room was featured on Fresh Home last week, designed by John Maniscalco Architecture. Absolute perfection in my book.

Anyone else like these rugs as much as I do? Zebra with some color! Beautiful in a classically modern setting. Available at Pieces in Atlanta & Jonathan Adler.

No joke, I finished writing this right when my son woke up from his nap today so forgot to post. While out, I looked on Facebook and saw Adrienne's post on Project Nursery featuring the same rug! Great minds think alike right :)!

Here is the link to her article,& more photos of this wonderful room here.

Fall Babies

And now our monthly fashion entry from our fashion contributor Sheridan French of The Southern Eclectic:

Before you read this, hide your credit card....

Bonnie Baby. Music to my ears when strung together, because they represent my most favorite line of infant and toddler clothing ever. {Yes, EVER!} I stumbled across this beautiful brand while living in Scotland and it was love at first site. The refreshing collection of luxury baby knitwear, t-shirts, baby blankets, hats and booties caters from newborns to two-year-olds. Designer and owner Tracey Samuel was a fashion designer for Paris fashion house Sonia Rykiel until deciding to start Bonnie Baby when her daughter was born; probably the main reason why the line is so brilliant!

There were simply too many adorable pieces to narrow down to one boy and one girl outfit, so below is a selection of my favorites. In truth, I can't pick a favorite, but go ahead and take a look over the choices below. If I HAD to pick one piece and one piece only, it would be the Apple of Daddy's Eye onesie - also available in a sweatshirt - although I desperately wish it said Mommy's Eye... I'll have to work on this!

As you can see from this portion of their collection, the vast majority of the pieces are unisex. That being said, you can definitely go as girly and over the top with bows and ruffles as you want to as shown by the Tea Rose set below, but most of the items are available in shades of blue and neutral tones on everything from onesies and sleep sacks to vests and cardigans to hoodies, hats, shoes, blankets and more. Also take note of the fact that most of their cashmere is, drumroll please, machine washable. I do not lie.

Now seriously, go hide your credit card. If you don't heed my advice, send something to me while you're going nuts on their website. My due date is in late January and baby would really like the Toucan motif playsuit mkay thanks!

xoxo Sheridan
