I apologize for the delayed posts or lack there of today. We had a Tsunami scare this morning, got my first call from East Coast friends at 2:00 AM warning us about the record breaking earthquake in Japan. My husband and I were up for an hour watching the news and discussing how different our personalitities were, I the type A immediately starting thinking about going out to get gas, water and what we would pack up in our car to take to his parent's house up in Palos Verdes. He on the other hand was begging to go back to bed and said we'd check back in when it hit Hawaii. I cooled down a bit until I started seeing the footage of the destruction the water had on the shores of Japan. I freaked out again so set my alarm for 5:30 for an update - that gave us 3 hours of prep time in case it was coming. When 5:30 rolled around, the largest waves they saw in Hawaii were 6 feet above normal.
Luckily the waves in Manhattan Beach were only three feet larger than normal and it turned out to be a beautiful day. My thoughts go out to the hundreds of Japanese people who lost their lives or are without their homes or power. Relief efforts are already underway so keep your eyes and ears opens as to how you can donate items to help those effected in need. In the meantime HERE is a Google list of agencies already set up to take donations.
