Turquoise Girl's Nursery

Remember this nursery that I featured last week?

When we started the project the room looked like THIS:

And here is the complete view of the AFTER:

My client only had two pieces of furniture that she wanted to keep, her Nurseryworks Aerial Crib and her Little Castle Reclining Glider. As you can tell she is not afraid of color or pattern and wanted her second daughter's nursery to be playful, energetic, modern, and not overwhelmingly pink. I think we accomplished her goal!

Marie-Chantal Summer Sale

Marie-Chantal, one of my favorite high-end children's clothing & accessory boutiques is having their annual end of season sale. The clothing is styled beautifully and wearably chic. Stop by if you get a chance to scoop up some deals. The look is definitely more east-coast preppy/cool.

I mean really, aren't these gladiator sandals to die for?! I want a pair in my size!

Kid's Rooms in Issue 6 of Rue Magazine

The 6th Issue of Rue Magazine went live today. Definitely worth a look for some weekend iPad reading. The on-line magazine takes us on more of culinary and worldly adventure than previous issues. The photographs are beautiful and inspiring. The only child's room this issue is featured below:

The small nursery was designed by Joanna Swanson and featured in the "750 Square Feet in Stockholm" article. I'm definitely attracted to the whimsical dream-like mural on the wall. Since this room is so small, it needed a large statement of visual interest on at least one wall to break up the white walls and furniture.

How many of you have children who sleep in basically glorified closets? I'm seeing this as more of a trend for growing families not ready to move yet. Honestly it makes sense for when the child is a baby. All they need is a place to sleep right? Play time can be transitioned into any other room of the house.

Fabulous Prints

I'm currently obsessing over these french solar (le soleir) and lunar (la lune) prints featured on Bambino Goodies this week. I need to fit these into a children's room design somewhere, or heck they can work in any space really.

The prints are numbered, signed and framed and in limited edition print. Prices start at 110 Euros and they are available at a wonderful shop called Pedlars.

I also thought this Balloon City print was adorable, especially for those who have a connection to NYC.

And who doesn't like owls?

Pregnancy Craving: Chocolate Zico

I don't care if you are pregnant or not, if you like chocolate milk or really just sweets in general, you are going to love the new chocolate flavor introduced by Zico. I am honestly obsessed with it and so is my husband. We go through at least one case a week!

Each 14 oz bottle only has 110 calories and tastes better than cold chocolate milk. It has 32 percent less sugar than most other coconut flavored waters and 20% more electrolytes than most Zico flavors. It is made from the natural ingredients: coconut water, coconut cream, cocoa, vanilla and carrageenan. Seriously I promise they are not paying me to say this but if you have not tried it yet, stop by your local Target or Trader Joe's to purchase some to try. It is best if served chilled and will easily cure your craving for anything sweet. I primarily drink it as an afternoon rejuvenation - basically when I want something sweet like a chocolate chip cookie, I down one of these and it cures my craving with more nutrition and less calories.

M. Design Interiors Inc.

Take note from M. Design Interiors in Los Angeles that when painting a wall, you don't have to paint the whole wall the same color. In the design above for a playroom, they put grasscloth (or it could be cork board) under a chair rail to give the kids a place to post notes and their artwork. A vibrant splash of red above draws your eye up away from the collage of work, thus creating a lovely balance on the walls.

Even without a physical chair rail, you can create the illusion of one with just paint. I suggest making it at least 36" off the floor.

A more subtle tone on tone version below in yellow.

Now since this room has high ceilings, they created a boarder in paint to bring the focus of the room down towards the furniture and artwork.

The room below has no contrast paint, but since it is a children's room in their portfolio I still needed to share it with you all:

Manuel Canovas Trellis Wallpaper

Stop by Project Nursery today to check out my post on Manuel Canovas's Trellis wallpaper used in children's room design.

The photos above are from a nursery I finished a few months ago in Agoura Hills. (For more photos of the nursery visit my new portfolio on my Andrika King Design website HERE.)

We used the trellis wallpaper as an accent on the ceiling for an unexpected splash of color and pattern.

The same pattern used on an accent wall in a boy's room in the city designed by Amie Corley Interiors.

The pattern also looks great in adult design, here used in a breakfast nook designed by Eileen Kathryn Boyd featured in Lonny Magazine.

Eileen also used the fabric to decorate a bookshelf.

I'm still waiting to use it in a powder room as shown above.

This might be one of my favorite entryways. Notice how the trellis wallpaper is on the ceiling and the walls? A great design by Kevin Walsh of Bear Hill Interiors.

A sweet way to incorporate purple into a girl's room designed by Maya Williams featured in Coastal Living Magazine.

Lastly, it can also be used in a kitchen (shown here in a design by Angie Hranowsky featured in Lonny Magazine.)

The wallpaper is available to the trade and your designer through Cowan & Tout.

New Daddy Glider from Jennifer Delonge

Finally someone has made a modern glider fit for a dad (or a mom on the taller side). The new Daddy Glider from Jennifer Delonge is now available in prices ranging from $1090 to $1390. The seat is a little wider and the back is a little taller than their standard chairs. Overall 30" wide x 44" high x 34" deep. Seat width is 22" and depth is 21"

Details such as a contrast pipe and plenty of customizable fabrics (also available COM) make this a versatile piece ready to suit any decor.

Guest Blogger: Buy Modern Baby

I'm excited to share a guest post with you today from one of my favorite children's design & product guide blogs Buy Modern Baby. Esther always has such insightful and interesting posts. Thank you for being here today and everyone enjoy her inspirational post.

It's always exciting to appear on one of your favorite blogs, and I'm honored to have my picks here among all the beautiful inspiration on Nursery Notations. Thanks for having me!

Andrika asked me to share some of my art finds and since there are so many, I've narrowed my picks today to alphabet prints for the nursery. Prints are a relatively inexpensive way to decorate and there's an alphabet poster to suit any style.

This first print, Modern Alphabet from Finka Studio, features a muted turquoise and warm golden yellow in a very simple design.

Modern Alphabet - a modern design print 13x19

Animal alphabets are among my favorites, and the illustrations in this Animal ABC Lithograph from Gumo are wonderful. If you can't figure out what all the animals are, the answers are at the bottom.

Animal ABC Lithograph 50 x 70 in turquoise, teal and blue printed on recycled paper

The ABC's Print by Eleanor Grosch may be one of my favorite animal alphabet's to date. It's got a great circus vibe to it.

This Animal Alphabet Poster in vintage style from Marla Sea has beautiful pattern and texture.

The artwork in this Decorative Modern Alphabet Giclee Print from The Paper Nut is absolutely spectacular, and you could design an entire nursery around this print.

I've featured a lot more options on BuyModernBaby, so if you're looking for more Alphabet prints or other art, feel free to check out my discoveries!

Palm Springs/Regency Inspired Nursery in Fort Worth

This Viceroy-esq nursery in a house for sale in Fort Worth, Texas was featured on one of my favorite blogs, La Dolce Vita, today and since I'm originally from Fort Worth I had to share it with you. After a little more research I realized that I actually know the couple and used to work with one of the owners (the husband) when I was interning in college. Small world right!

This is not your typical nursery design but is wonderful and unique in its own right. From the custom cabana-inspired window treatments, to the imperial trellis custom bedding & Oeuf sparrow crib I think they hit the Palm Springs/Regency look right on.

I also like the Slim Aarons blown up mural on the wall. A similar idea to the blown up ocean photo that Lulu DK has in her dining area (shown below).

Now back to the is the link to an article about the house featured in D Magazine which includes more photos and sources. Interiors designed by the couple and Leigh Taylor Interiors in Fort Worth. Love that orange front door and turquoise pots!

This house can be yours now too! It is in a great area of town. Check out the listing here.
