New Years Resolutions

I'm starting off my 2013 resolutions (more relaxing) right this year by extending my vacation one more week and spending it with some of our closest friends in Tahoe. The skies are blue and the snow is fluff! Can't wait to take the kids sledding this afternoon before we celebrate New Years early at 9:00 so the kids can celebrate too.

If I could add one more thing to this list it would be more time for my husband. He always seems to get the short end of the stick when my time is concerned. Love you babe, thank you for your continued support and love.

2013 - Here We Come

This image pretty much summarizes how I feel about the upcoming year!  I'm taking it head on and am excited to bring you all on the journey with me.  I'll be sharing some new images of before and after large full-scale home projects I've been working on as well as some killer kids rooms in the next few weeks.

Here is to 2013!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas wishes to you all and your families. We've been celebrating in Texas and were surprised with some holiday snow yesterday. Nothing like a white Christmas!

Celebrity Mollly Sims Nursery

Now you know that blue is one of my favorite colors with turquoise being first and periwinkle being second. That is why I'm so drawn to the soft yet sophisticated design of Molly Sims nursery.  I saw these photos on Elements of Style today and had to share them with you.  It has a subtle bohemian vibe which seems to suite Molly perfectly.

Now if you like the look here are some details on the items used:

Fabric for the bedding, I'm almost 100% sure it is a custom bed set using John Robshaw's Shali Lapis.

Now the crib looks like the Austin crib from Duc Duc.

I thought the dresser was from Duc Duc too but I don't see the style on their site, maybe it is a custom design or an old style but it looks like a piece from their collection.

The adorable animal prints above the bed are from the Animal Shop by Sharon Montrose.

Love this Villa Playroom

This might be one of my favorite playrooms yet!  Looks to be in some villa in Italy or France. And the branch holiday tree! Love!

Bill and Giuliana's son Edward Duke's Nursery

TV celebrities Bill and Giuliana's son Edward Duke has a fabulous sophisticated nursery. My favorite details are the blue grey grasscloth walls and custom monogrammed crib. Well done!  I think any adult would gladly take this room as their own.

Favorite Nativity Set of 2013

I'm always on the hunt for an authentic nativity set.  This year my favorite is from a store in Tribeca called Playing Mantis.  It is pricey at $500, but worth the cost since it is all hand carved and a piece to pass down from generation to generation (given your toddlers don't break the pieces while playing baby Jesus.)  I'm hoping to get this under the tree so I can put it up next year in the house!

Give the Gift of a Family Tree from Ferran Arboretum

Amongst the hustle and bustle of on-line shopping yesterday I ran across these lovely and tasteful family tree prints from Ferran Arboretum.  A fabulous gift for a grandparent or a fun piece to have in your own home to help teach your children your immediate lineage. These linen prints come in four colors (cranberry, navy, khaki or green) and can either be framed or made into a pillow. And yes you can even add your pet!

They also have less expensive canvas options available for the children's birthday prints.

New Interactive Advent Calendars

Time to get your advent calendars purchased! This year, think about using one of these interactive versions:

A Christmas Countdown Calendar decal lets your child build their very own Christmas tree as the holiday approaches.  Put on a new ornament every day.

Lego City

Even Lego is jumping on the advent band-wagon.  The Lego City Advent Calendar has your child build a part of a mini holiday city every day counting down to Christmas.

Holiday Decals

Jingle Bells and Christmas Smells
The holidays have officially begun in Manhattan Beach with the kick off of the Downtown Open House festival and tree lighting celebration this week.  Now I can official start thinking about Christmas.

A new holiday trend that I love is using seasonal decals in children's rooms or playrooms to help each child deck the halls.  Here are a few of my favorite Christmas-inspired decals.

Children's Rooms in Lonny

I always look forward to clicking through the monthly issue of Lonny on a morning with my coffee when everyone in my house is still asleep.  Here are a few child-friendly rooms featured in this month's issue:

I had to share three angles of this first room because I love the casual, laid back rustic vibe.  Although this is a Sag Harbor guest room it could easily double for a boy's room. Designed by Ari Heckman and Ethan Feirstein and photographed by Patrick Cline.

Restoration Hardware Baby & Child Opening in Los Angeles

I knew there was a rumor floating around that Restoration Hardware Baby & Child was opening a showroom in Los Angeles but I had no idea that it would be here so soon! Woo hoo!  Now we have a chance to see their wonderful products in person.

Note their 20% off Friends & Family event runs from Nov 8-12 on-line and in stores!

Vintage-Inspired Playroom

I've been following the "Rooms with a View" fundraiser in Connecticut posts on Quintessence this week and wanted to share a playroom design developed by Bachman Brown Design.  There are so many elements that I love in this room from the cork board wall to the eclectic gallery display over the storage dresser or the white walls with painted trim.

The vintage mod table and chair set is pretty spectacular too. Can't you see this in a NYC apartment or in a home in Echo Park?

State Side Tables

Thinking of my East Coast and NYC friends and family tonight.  Stay dry and safe.

On the note of my favorite states, check out these new state tables from Uncommon Goods.  Great side tables for a modern boys' room if they have a sentimental value to you. (Available in 8 colors, $200 ea)

Artist David Ryden

I apologize for being MIA for a week or so but I was in Texas for my sister's baby shower:

and in Charleston for a crazy wedding:

which we turned into a family vacation on Sullivan's Island celebrating Patton's first birthday:

While walking around Charleston I stopped into a few of my favorite stores Sugar Snap Pea, SOMA and Michael Mitchell.  Michael Mitchell is an art gallery which always seems to have affordable and emerging artists.  When I walked in I immediately fell in love with this Elephant by David Ryden.

Sized at 24" x 18" it is the perfect size for a child's room. The $1100 price tag is a little steep but once you consider it a true piece of artwork and investment piece which your little one will have forever it is a little easier to stomach.

The polar bear below (in the middle) was another favorite and had such wonderful soft colors.  I could definitely use that one in Patton's room.

Farewell Charleston! Until next time!
