Need an activity to do with your kids this weekend? How about making some Easter candy bags to give away to their class at school? Easy enough and the kids will love stuffing the bags.
The cards on the top are free Easter fold-over printable templates from Love vs Design. If you don't like letting your kids have candy put in some easter stickers and erasers instead. Have a great weekend everyone!

Bunk Room Friday - Japanese Style
Turns out bunk rooms are even popular in Japan!
This bunk room was designed by architect Takeshi Hosaka for a family with three children. The house was built to have a very communal feeling while allowing the family to feel close to nature with the glass walls and sliding doors.
Here is what really sets this bunk room apart...notice below how this bunk room is actually just off the kitchen? Interesting in theory but not entirely practical for a family that wants some privacy. I'm hoping that there are sliding doors which are hidden in the photo but span across the bedroom space.

High vs Low - Parsons Desk
High - West Elm Parsons Desk - $349
48"w x 24"d x 30"h
Low - Decorator's Collection Parsons Desk - $129
47.5"w x 24"d x 30" h
I mean these look almost identical. The West Elm version does have two drawers and I can vouch for it that the quality is wonderful for the price. I've never seen the Decorators Collection piece in person so if any of you have any comments about the quality please share, but $200 off for one less drawer seems pretty darn good. Plus it comes in an assortment of colors like the fabulous orange/yellow below (great for a splash of color in a boy's room or playroom.)

Practicing for Easter
Nothing like practicing for an Easter egg hunt with an Easter egg lunch! Seriously such a cute idea for a picnic lunch in the park! Or you could make your kid's lunch at school the most envied of all and pop these eggs in their box instead of the usual containers.

Moving Rooms
Remember a few weeks ago when I showed you how this boy's room:
Used to be a girl's room:
So where might you ask did the little girl go? Well her room got moved down the hall and she actually upgraded into a larger room with a lot more play space. To keep things simple since she won't be in get crib for much longer, we kept the same colors and furniture, and just added a few changes with artwork, a new rug and accessories.

Sophisticated Jungle-Inspired Toddler Room by Liz Carroll Interiors
A college friend of mine, Liz Carroll of Liz Carroll Interiors shared these images with me of a fabulous boy's room she recently finished for a couple in North Carolina. I love the subtle yet sophisticated jungle theme of the room. The blue and white combination with pops of green is so crisp and fresh. Liz combines decorative elements from Jonathan Adler (lamp), John Robshaw (pillow), Pottery Barn Kids (Artwork), West Elm (headboard) and Young America (dresser) to create this look. Well done!

Speedy Room Makeover
I'm not sure if any of you have run into a situation where your doctor told you that you were having a girl but a few weeks later it turns out you need to return all those pink blankets for blue ones. Well there is a great feature in California Home + Design Magazine this month on a little boy's modern nursery. His parents thought he was a girl (they even named her Chloe and had her room complete) up until the 36th week ultrasound and surprise, Chloe was now going to be a Dylan. I was very impressed with the quick transformation by Niche Interiors and just loved the story. Definitely worth a read!

Kids Rooms in Rue
The latest issue of Rue on-line magazine came out last week. I finally got around to reading it tonight and was pleased to see so many great designs in this issue. They even featured two children's rooms by Wendy Schwartz Design in Los Angeles. She mixed high and low elements in these room to create bright and playful spaces for this family in Los Angeles.
The bold oversized relaxed romans are a nice dramatic touch in the girl's room. But it looks like the boy needs a little storage control over his legos...ha ha!

Giveaway: Easter Cards from Minted
As an added bonus, starting today with any purchase of Easter Cards or Birth Announcements you will receive ten pieces of pretty oragami in pretty Easter shades as well as instructions on how to make cute little egg cup baskets for Easter treats.

Great after school activities with your kids in preparation for easter.
Here are a few of my favorites below:
Springing Forward
I hope you all survived your first day of daylight savings. I love that it signals summer is on its way and now I can play outside with my kids even longer in the afternoon. But I tell you, missing that one hour of sleep (and lets be honest late night computer time) is a bummer.
Doesn't this artwork by Yan Ucci just make you smile? It should be in a Palm Springs inspired children's room.

Nautical Bunk Room
![]() |
Photographer Ted Yarwood // House & Home July 2010 issue |
Everyone loved bunk rooms build into a wall like this. It leaves plenty of floor space for play and creates individual "nooks" for each child to have their own private space. The nautical flair in this one featured in House & Home is putting me in the beach mode for the weekend!

Pretty in Pink
It's a busy week here at Andrika King Design...installs, painting, murals, and my daughter's nursery is finally being photographed tomorrow! I can't wait to share the photos with you soon.
The room above is a nursery that I'm working on for a client in Hermosa Beach. She loved the Globetrotters wallpaper by Clarke & Clarke as much as I do and we used that as our starting inspirational point. The rest of the furniture gets moved in tomorrow! Here is the original inspiration board below:
Of course we made some adjustments based on product availability as time was of the essence in this one, but you get the gist of the look of the room. I'm really loving the way it is turning out.
