Surface Skins from Blik

Seriously, how amazing are these new surface skins from Blik?  Apply them to any smooth surface to create a dynamic art piece.  I can't wait to use the Homage (above) for a kids art table.

Or the Guache is pretty spectacular too!  I wonder if it would work on my West Elm Parson's desk?

The skins are available in four sizes and can be used to cover table tops, desk tops or can be cut to fit cabinets and dressers.

Where would you use them?  Answer the question on the Blik website in their wrapped giveaway to enter into their giveaway of these new skins!

Nursery Design Featured on

I'm so excited to be included in one of the nursery designs featured on Project Nursery's post on today.

The nursery featured showcases one of our favorite wallpapers - Globetrotter by Clarke & Clarke as well as some custom bedding by New Arrivals Inc.

A very talented fellow designer and friend from college Liz Carroll Interiors's nursery design was also featured.

Funny that the color scheme is so similar! Great minds think alike :)! Great post Pam and Melisa, thanks again for featuring one of our rooms.

Kids Rooms in Adore Magazine

The Australian version of Lonny Magazine, Adore, just released their newest issue this week.  Since they are coming up on Summer the issue is full of inspiring bright and energetic interiors.

This month they actually featured some children's rooms designed by the talented Maria Barros:

It seemed like the fabric house of Quadrille was all over this issue.  Both rooms featured elegant wallpaper - China Seas Aga Reverse in the girl's room and Allan Campbell Zig Zag in the boy's room.

Kristy Lee Interiors uses some on Quadrille Paradise Background on some headboards in her shop:

And the pretty bedroom below designed by LA designer Emily Ruddo also uses some Allan Campbell Montecito on the pillows.

Diane Bergeron uses it again above on the roman shades and headboard. Then designer Emily Ruddo uses one of my favorites Allan Campbell Montecito below on some decorative pillows.

If you have some time, definitely check out the issue this week!

Children's Rooms by Carla Lane

If any of you get the LA Times, I'm sure you stumbled across this nursery the Home & Design section designed by Carla Lane Interiors for the 2012 Santa Barbara Design House . (This photo is actually from California Homes Magazine as the photo from the paper is a little blurry). Talk about amazing!  And no that is not wallpaper, it is Lulu DK's new fabric for Schumacher Jungle Jubilee up on the walls.

Albeit amazing covering the walls in an embroidered fabric like this must have cost a fortune!  Rumor has it that they will be coming out with the wallpaper version in 2013 so if you love it, hold tight.

But Carla Lane does a fabulous job designing children's rooms.  Here are a few of my favorites that I found in her portfolio today.

Temporary Wall Tiles from Blik

Venice-based vinyl decal design studio What is Blik? has just released a few new designs by Jim Houser of their temporary wall tiles (otherwise known as sticker wallpaper).  For those who fear wallpaper commitment these are perfect.  I love the scallops pattern for a bathroom or boys room by the sea and the amps for a tween boys bedroom.

Or how about a classic Keith Haring for a playroom...fitting right?

Princes and Crows Wallpaper

I recently came across a new line of whimsical wallpapers by Princes and Crows called Little Prince. The characters in the designs are playful and could entertain a child for hours.   What I really like about these designs is that they have an old-world, almost vintage charm to them which is hard to find for children's rooms.

New Items from Little Choux

One of our sponsors, Little Choux has just recently opened up their web offerings to wallpaper.  Specifically a fabulous line from England Hibou Home. I shared a few of my favorite papers in my post on Project Nursery last week.

If your family loves horses and you have a daughter, you HAVE to find a place somewhere in your house to use this paper above.  So simple and playful yet it has a wonderfully sophisticated feeling to it.    They also have a wonderful selection of unique artwork and gifts. I'm all about silhouettes now and they offer custom artwork too.

And lets not forget about the gifts...plastic for children is passé, teach them how to be responsible and use ceramic dishes.  How adorable are these ceramic sets?

Speedy Room Makeover

I'm not sure if any of you have run into a situation where your doctor told you that you were having a girl but a few weeks later it turns out you need to return all those pink blankets for blue ones.  Well there is a great feature in California Home + Design Magazine this month on a little boy's modern nursery.  His parents thought he was a girl (they even named her Chloe and had her room complete) up until the 36th week ultrasound and surprise, Chloe was now going to be a Dylan.  I was very impressed with the quick transformation by Niche Interiors and just loved the story.  Definitely worth a read!

Pretty in Pink

It's a busy week here at Andrika King Design...installs, painting, murals, and my daughter's nursery is finally being photographed tomorrow!  I can't wait to share the photos with you soon.

The room above is a nursery that I'm working on for a client in Hermosa Beach.  She loved the Globetrotters wallpaper by Clarke & Clarke as much as I do and we used that as our starting inspirational point.  The rest of the furniture gets moved in tomorrow! Here is the original inspiration board below:

Of course we made some adjustments based on product availability as time was of the essence in this one, but you get the gist of the look of the room.  I'm really loving the way it is turning out.

Crushing Chinoiserie

Chinoiserie has been a long-time favorite of mine.  At first thought it might seem a bit strange to use it in children's decor but because of the playful nature of the pattern it works perfectly. Here are a few examples of ways to bring it into your child's decor:

designed by Martensen-Jones Interiors

designed by Kristin Davis Designs

I think if you want an all over room look go for wallpaper in this motif. A white background is more subtle.

And a colored is more bold.

Or just bring it in as a fabric on a headboard or pillow.
